Marty
A close connection formed through aviation, conversation, and shared interests.
Marty was one of the first people who made Canada feel less unfamiliar. Our friendship grew from shared interest in aviation, but what made it important was the sense of belonging that came with it.
Overview
I met Marty in Mr. P's room. He was quiet at first, but we quickly found common ground in aviation. Marty knew everything about WWII military planes — the models, the engine specs, and the history behind them.
I leaned more toward commercial aviation, so we complemented each other well. He would tell me about Spitfires, and I would talk about Boeing 777s.
Marty became one of the first people who made me feel like I belonged. Through aviation, we built a friendship that did not need many words.
